An empty stomach caused them to doubt.
Exodus 16:3 NKJV
[3] And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
It seems like the Israelites believed God as long as their stomachs were filled. As long as their food supplies lasted they followed Moses even through the Red Sea. The minute their food ran out they resented Moses and told him that the meat pots of Egypt under slavery was much better than the desert with God. They had no appetite for spiritual things. Food must never become your master. You should have faith in God even if it means you will have to go hungry.
